Evidence of distant hybridization within Central Asian feather grasses (Poaceae: Stipa)

چکیده

The genus Stipa is one of the largest genera Poaceae. phylogeny still poorly resolved, and main problems linked to extensive inter intrasectional hybridization. Disclosure hybridization processes a key understanding relationships between species within genus. During floristic study in feathergrass steppe ecosystems central Asia, we found challenging specimens with an interesting combination morphological characters suggesting their origination through morphologically phylogenetically distant species. To confirm our hypothesis, applied classical genome-wide SNP genotyping methods. Using such approach, determined that new taxon named × smelanskyi arose from crossing S. richteriana drobovii confirmed it F1 hybrid. Moreover, specimen minor admixture loci may indicate putative introgression events among these taxa.

Stipa richteriana (Poaceae) and Galium songaricum (Rubiaceae): two new additions of the Central Asian species to the flora of Iran

Stipa richteriana and Galium songaricum are newly recorded species for the flora of Iran, collected from Binalood and Hezar-Masjed Mountains in Razavi Khorassan Province. The geographical distribution of both species is mainly confined to the Middle Asia. Morphological characters of two newly recorded species are compared with their close relatives. Notes on taxonomy, ecology, phytogeography, a...

Systematics of California Grasses (Poaceae)

The grass family (Poaceae or Gramineae) is the fourth largest flowering plant family in the world and contains about 11,000 species in 800 genera worldwide. Twenty-three genera contain 100 or more species or about half of all grass species, and almost half of the 800 genera are monotypic or diatypic, i.e., with only one or two species (Watson and Dallwitz 1992, 1999). Over the last 150 years th...

Stipa pennata subsp. ceynowae (Poaceae, Pooideae), a new taxon from Central Europe

Based on numerical analyses of macromorphological characters, scanning electron microscopy observation of leaves and lemma micromorphology, as well as field observations, Stipa pennata subsp. ceynowae was described here as a new taxon from Poland. It differs from the most similar S. pennata subsp. pennata and S. borysthenica mainly by its longer ligules of vegetative shoots. The affinities of t...

Early inflorescence development in the grasses (Poaceae)

The shoot apical meristem of grasses produces the primary branches of the inflorescence, controlling inflorescence architecture and hence seed production. Whereas leaves are produced in a distichous pattern, with the primordia separated from each other by an angle of 180°, inflorescence branches are produced in a spiral in most species. The morphology and developmental genetics of the shift in ...
